Camp Washington Homeownership Program Empowers Low Income Buyers
Local non-profit seeks financial support for equitable housing initiative
CAMP WASHINGTON, October 16, 2023 - The Camp Washington Urban Revitalization Corporation (CWURC) is proud to support its neighborhood with the Camp Washington Homeownership Program, an initiative that empowers first-time homeowners while simultaneously strengthening the community's residential growth. So far the program’s provided valuable resources to six different first-time buyers and households of low to moderate income, helping these new homeowners to ensure an effective means of entry into the property market. The “big picture” of this initiative is increasing the number of long-term residents within the historic neighborhood of Camp Washington and to foster an evolving sense of community and stability. A significant highlight of the new homeownership program is the opportunity for buyers to receive up to $20,000 in financial aid towards their home purchase. This assistance comes in the form of a forgivable loan, making homeownership more accessible for many who may have previously felt it was out of reach. "CWURC’s Home Ownership program helped me greatly as a single mother buying my first home,” explains Mandy Askins, a Camp Washington resident who works as the assistant collections and archives manager for the Cincinnati Observatory. “For my family it means stability, an affordable place of our own to set down roots, and living close to friends that provide us a community, or village, for support." The Camp Washington Homeownership Program was established thanks to CWURC's commitment to the revitalization of the neighborhood. It constitutes more than simple financial support but, more importantly, a dedication to the growth of the community. CWURC works to build a framework for community-based strategies that enhance economic opportunities, promote social engagement, and creates a safe, blight free physical environment.
